Day 47: Keep an eye to the sky

real vintage, copyright 1968

"This best selling gem of a book will be invaluable to anyone participating in outdoor activities, from farming, gardening and walking to riding, golfing, sailing, and fishing- and of course to holidaymakers." - back cover of Instant Weather Forecasting

It all started with the discovery of The Cloud Spotters Guide last summer. Since then, the sky has been full of amazing sights that were somehow missed before. I am now a pro at spotting my favorite cloud, the cumulus humilis. In the age of global warming, having the skills to quickly assess approaching weather systems might become vital and more than a recreational activity. So, with the spotting of this "gem of a book" last week, I had to snatch it up. You never know when it might come in handy...

I am also proud member 9313 of the VERY official The Cloud Appreciation Society.

CLOUDBERRIES

You give me cloudberry jam from Lapland
Bog amber, snow-line tidbits, scrumptious
Cloudberries sweetened slowly by the cold,
And costly enough for cloudberry wars
(Diplomatic wars, my dear).

Imagine us
Among the harvesters, keeping our distance
In sphagnum fields on the longest day
When dawn and dusk like frustrated lovers
Can kiss, legend has it, once a year. Ah,
Kisses at our age, cloudberry kisses.
