the tainted Palm Beach ballot in 2000 (click to enlarge)
The campaign, Design for Democracy, from AIGA, has worked out a better ballot design. The designs are ready, but a way to actually standardized the voting process across the nation is apparently nowhere near being worked out. I think their new designs are brilliant, and it is totally fascinating to see how random, and poorly designed (perhaps intentionally?) some ballots actually are. It is hard to fathom why this most important, and obviously flawed in the past, process hasn't become more efficient at this point in time.
AIGA's propsals for touchscreen voting looks amazing. I hope I get to experience this within my lifetime.
