It wasn't our typical return to the city yesterday, almost half the drive was consumed by the news of the US Airways plane landing in (crashing into?) the Hudson River. The impact of hearing the report was terrifying. The immense sense of relief and incredible disbelief that all 155 people had actually survived was something that I can't quite put into words. The whole experience propelled us back into "city" mode with lightning speed, the month away evaporated almost instantly. It was incredible to witness the forces of nature, a flock of birds, meet the seemingly incongruous forces of humans so inadvertently, but with such severe consequences... and then to have another force of nature sweep in and buffer the collision (for the humans at least).
