Today we explored the tidal flats and discovered amazing creatures like this.
The small orange disc on the left is the sea star's madreporite. It acts as a water filter and supplies the starfish's water vascular system with water to move. The backside is covered in tiny suction cups that help the creature catch food and move through the water.
Amazingly, some species of starfish have the ability to regenerate lost arms. Luckily, this one had all 5 still intact.
