Day 84: Starting with the Sun

The Sun, Canadian Space Agency

Today and tomorrow we (extrememediastudies.org) will be live blogging from the Buckminster Fuller Symposium, held in conjunction with the Whitney Museum of American Art and their exhibition, Starting with the Universe.

My mother sent me the following quote this week. I very much enjoy Bucky's idea (one of the gazillion visionary ideas that he spawned) describing how our energy demands could quite safely begin- with our very own sun:

"We may now care for each Earthian individual at a sustainable billionaire's level of affluence while living exclusively on less than 1 percent of our planet's daily energy income from our cosmically designed nuclear reactor, the Sun, optimally located 92 million safe miles away from us." -Buckminster Fuller

Symposium details:
Friday, September 12 - Saturday, September 13
The Great Hall of the Cooper Union
7 East 7th Street, at Astor Place

Or tune in virtually here.

Sanford Kwinter speaks tonight, should be far from equilibrium (See Day 2 of this blog).
