Day 182: Without rue

Red Hook, 3rd floor, studio #56

Rue: To feel sorrow over; repent of; regret bitterly: to rue the loss of opportunities

The new year is shaping up to be one with less creative rue. Within 24 hours of (FINALLY) deciding it was time to get serious about making art, and get a studio to make art in, word came through online (thank you Stephen!) that a new building in our beloved Red Hook was going to have studios available in late winter. The location, price, size, management, perks, access, and safety of the space couldn't be more perfect. So, it's a done deal. The deposit check has been sent. In 2009 smudge studio will actually have a studio to make work in. Having a studio has been something of a life-long dream for me, but it wasn't until the last couple of months that it felt like a studio was actually essential to the work that I now feel I need to make. Securing this space felt like a big step, a manifestation of potential, not only for creative work -but for life in general.

Here's to 2009 being a year that so much latent potential actually gets to be released and materialized- without further rue.
