Day 183: Entering the longest night

the bay at 4:00 pm

Today's sunrise was 7:05, tonight's sunset was 4:12.

Happy winter solstice and longest night of the year! Over the next couple of days we get to welcome back the sun as it virtually stands still on the horizon for 3 days (which we will appreciate if we get to see it peak through the snow and clouds...). This day also marks the half-way point of the 365 blog. If you are reading this, thanks for hanging in there with me- here's to the next 182 days!

"On winter solstice, the Sun ceases to decline in the sky and the length of daylight reaches its minimum for three days, during which the sun does not move on the horizon. After such a time, the Sun begins its ascent into the northern sky and days grow longer. Thus the interpretation by many cultures of a sun reborn and a return to light." - wikipedia
